Workplace chronic mental stress - Holistic approach to cost mitigation
Chronic mental stress is a relatively new area in the Canadian workers’ compensation space. Effectively managing the disability cycle requires a unique ‘holistic’ approach, that looks beyond the biological aspects of mental illness, but also embraces psychosocial factors that affect an individual’s level of mental wellness.
In this white paper, Mike Moher provides an overview of chronic mental stress components, including entitlement considerations, the interaction of several biopsychological factors, business cost impact, and highlights of some relevant Canadian mental health statistics. The paper concludes that, by engaging collaborative, prosocial strategies based on empathetic and supportive thinking, the best wellness outcomes can be achieved for both the organization, and the employee.
